When it comes to choosing worktops there are so many how do you choose????

Granite, quartz (Silestone,Cambria,Caesarstone to name a few), porcelain, ceramics and sintered stones (Dekton, Laminam, Neolith, lapitec), Solid surfaces (Corian, Hanex, Starton, LG Hi-Macs) then marbles and quartzites. Although we have policies on selling marble to customers as worktops. Here at R.O Surfaces, we like to educate our customers about the materials so if a customer wants marble and hasn't had marble previous we would explain to them what will happen to the worktops over time, how they will age and how they can etch. Even with the best sealers in the world a marble will etch which is different from a stain!

The same with all our worktops we explain how to look after them and care for them. Corian and the other solid surfaces are to be looked after a little different to stone as with Corian being an acrlyic you can use a scouring pad and sandpapers on the face of it if you ever get stubborn stains whereas stones will simply require a good cleaner such as Cif or Barkeepers Friend to remove stubborn marks

We have installed granite worktops in thousands of homes across the Newcastle upon tyne area and Northumberland and (touch wood) we havnt had a stain on a top we couldnt remove but we are also lucky enough that all of our customers have followed our care instructions!!

Our Showroom is jam-packed with all of our sample worktops and tiles for you to browse we are open 9-5 every weekday and 9-2 on a Saturday we always have someone on hand to give you some advice and point you in the right direction. We may not be the cheapest around but we pride ourselves on our craftsmanship and have gained an excellent reputation which we are very proud of. We don't use inferior products and we can stand behind our products 100%. a quote we heard a very long time ago that has stuck with us is "quality will be remembered long after the price is forgotten"

Last week weve been installing in Cheser le street with some stunning Dekton Trilium, Benton in Newcastle Upon Tyne with some Silestone and some more Dekton Trillium, a huge job in Gosforth with some Caeserstone and Whickham with a stunning Corian Island with drop-down legs and integrated Corian sink,

With the huge rise in compact surfaces we take a little look at what is swaying people towards this new sintered stone or porcelain worktops. Here at R.O Surfaces we love the new technology we have fabricated Dekton, Neolith and Laminam for customers all over the north east and Northumberland with great results. it can be used outdoors as it remains unaffected by exposure to sunlight and is hygienic, so why not let us built you a stunning BBQ area with this material, that's not to say Granite and quartz worktops wont work for BBQ's but quartz is not UV stable so would fade quickly, granite has better results however with constant exposure you may have some fading over time

We do a lot of kitchen worktops in the Porcelain or sintered stone and it is perfect for this - super strong, you can put hot pans direct on the surface you can even take a chainsaw to it!!! Not that we'd recommend that! Acidic wont effect the material such as lemon or wines. The various manufacturers have different thicknesses available at the minute Dekton has the full range in 12mm and 20mm for worktops, whilst Laminam and Neolith have a expanding range with all in 12mm and only some in 20mm I think over the coming months this will change as they will have to keep up with Dekton and they will bring out the whole range in 20mm

So dekton, granite or quartz??? Which would you pick and why????

As we fabricate and supply all of it we are completely impartial so we can give a unbiased opinion.

R.O Surfaces unbiased opinion is.......................whichever You like the best!! Seriously there is very little difference to the actual end user although the porcelains are a lot harder you aren't really going to be hitting the worktops with sledge hammers etc!! If you drop a cup or glass on any of the tops the glass would smash before you worktops

We've been mega busy these last few weeks with our usual Siltstone, Staron, Qurella quartz and granite jobs being installed in Ponteland, Cramlington, Gosforth and Montague in Newcastle upon tyne and Northumberland. We have also been supplying a lot of trade fitters and have picked up some more showrooms. If you are a showroom and would like to talk to us about supplying you please get in touch for a chat or pop into the showroom to see us we are situated right next to the metro centre R.O Surfaces, unit 2 foundry park market lane NE16 3DS

So after a long battle with Avonite we no longer sell it!! We put a job in around July time and when we were doing our finial finishing on it we noticed that there was what appeared to be tiger stripes in it. (it was a glitter decor and on closer inspection there was no glitter where the tiger stripes were giving the impression of darker spots in the material.

So we contacted our rep through the distributors who then in turn contacted Aristech who are the makers of avonite. The first reaction from them that it was something that we had done whilst fabricating (obviously we were expecting this!!) we denied it, this went back and forth for a while until the distributors had to pay to get a independent company to come out and evaluate the worktops. All this time our customer in Birtley had a worktop that whilst fit for purpose just wasn't what he or us for that matter wanted. Adam our customer met the independent guy who took one look at the surface and said it was a manufacturing fault.

Great news or so we thought! Usually in a situation like this the company would refund us, pay for the fabrication time. It keeps everybody happy and no one looses. Except in this case Avointe / Aristech didn't they just said they would replace the sheets. Now by this time Adam didn't want the material anymore as it had dragged on so long he wanted something else (which we fully supported) So fast forward to December we received a cheque for the material amount only, not the fabrication time, not the materials used during fabrication time nothing, the distributor then added a good will gesture of £250. We were appalled at the customer service from Aristech who's rep wouldn't answer the phone to either the distributor or us and i will never stock there products in my showroom again.

In stark contrast to them Staron and Blackheath products who when we had a piece of faulty material sent down the rep to sort the problem out immediately. Jason (blackheath rep) walked into the customers house seen the problem opened up the sample box told the customer to pick ANY decor they wanted and that it would be with me next day for fabrication. He then sorted out a full refund of all fabrication costs to us from the job. You cant get better customer service than that!!

Every company get problems and issues and its how they are sorted out that parts the good ones from the bad ones, especially when these huge distributors and manufacturing companies are dealing with small family run businesses like us its easy for them to just dismiss our claims, they wouldn't loose anything they turn over millions and millions but its us the fabricators who are at the ones who stand to loose out either with fabrications costs, time, or even worse bad realtaionships / reviews with customers

So when customers visits our showroom now you won't see Avonite at all however we still have a great range of solid surface samples for you to see. Staron, Corian, Tristone are all there at our Swalwell showroom (next to the metrocentre)

Customer service is paramount for us and will remain to be forever, so along with your stunning Granite, Quartz, Solid Surface worktop rest assured you will receive a great service
