5 Advantages of Quartz Kitchen Worktops

In recent years quartz has become a leading choice for kitchen worktops. Quartz worktops are manufactured by blending pulverised natural stone aggregate with a blend of polymers, the air is then removed, and the material is heated and shaped into slabs which have both the hardness and appearance of natural stone. The engineered material offers a lot of positive attributes, including durability and practically zero maintenance.

Whether you’re remodelling your kitchen or building a new one from scratch; choosing the right material for your worktops is crucial. Below we have outlined five benefits of incorporating quartz worktops into your kitchen, if you’re considering quartz but are unsure if it’s the right material for you, we hope this article can help.

Durability

Quartz is a human-made material composed of natural stone bound with polymer resins; the result of this manufacturing process makes quartz a nearly indestructible worktop material, which is built to last

When compared to other worktop materials, quartz is less likely to chip or crack and doesn’t require sealing or resealing overtime. Quartz surfaces have four times the flexural strength and double the impact resistance of granite, making them stronger and tougher. Additionally, engineered quartz is designed to specifically combat corrosion and imperfections, which can occur from cooking oil, cleaning products and other liquids.

Appearance

Another advantage of quartz is its wide variety of design possibilities. As it is an engineered material, quartz is available in more colours than both granite or stone. During the manufacturing process, pigments can be added to change the colour and achieve your desired look subtly.

Quartz also has an exquisite and sophisticated appearance. It consists of no less than 90% inorganic materials, and although human-made has the feel and weight of natural stone due to colour consistency.

Non-Porous

Quartz is a non-porous material which means that it is incredibly resistant to stains in comparison to other materials such as granite, concrete or marble. Classic quartz worktops will never hold onto any liquids, which makes it perfect for areas such kitchens where there is likely to be a lot of spillages during food preparation. The material stands up to juice, oil, wine, coffee and other sources of household stains which helps make cleaning easy and stress-free.

Hygenic

Quartz worktops are non-porous meaning that there is nowhere for bacteria to hide, the stone works at preventing the growth of germs and bacteria on the surfaces which results in an excellent and hygienic worktop for any kitchen. The material is also straightforward to clean - all is required to sanitise the surface is warm water, a non-abrasive cleaner and a soft cloth to wipe it down.

Although quartz is stain resistant, we recommend to wipe up any spillages immediately as highly acidic materials can discolour the stone.

Heat Resistant

Another bonus of having quartz stone for your kitchen worktops is that it is resistant to heat. The stone can withstand extreme heats as long as it does not exceed over 150 degrees. However, we still advise using heat pads when placing hot items such as pots or pans directly onto the surface to minimise the risk of permanently damaging the worktops.
