Whats the difference between Silestone and Dekton?

A question we offten get asked is what is the difference between Silestone and Dekton?

First off let me tell you that both Silestone and Dekton are both brands of the world famous Cosentino (The biggest quartz manufacturer in the world)

Silestone is a quartz product whilst Dekton is what is called "sintered stone"

so let's begin with Silestone, what is Silestone??

this is the official statement from Cosentino about Silestone :-

Silestone® is the hybrid surface of premium minerals, quartz and recycled materials more advanced and sustainable on the market, manufactured with the exclusive and innovative HybriQ® technology.

what about Dekton?

Dekton is Cosentino's innovative, ultra-compact and high-performance surface that offers endless design possibilities for outdoor and indoor spaces.

Still none the wiser??

Don't worry we've got you. In simple terms Dekton is made the same way as porcelains (just with a few different minerals) All natural materials are pressed and heated until it becomes almost a liquid form around 1200 degrees c then cooled slowly. This is what gives Dekton its hard resilient surface. Available in 44 decors (at the time of this article) it is fast becoming one of the most popular surfaces our business sells. Being this though it means that you can literally take a boiling hot pan straight from the hob and place it directly ontop of the countertop / worktop without the worry of any cracking or burning. Dekton is also unique in its chemical resistance, frost resistance, scratch-resistant and fire resistance this makes it perfect for outdoor uses too such as bbq areas facades etc.

Silestone is quartz and really what put Cosentino on the map in regards to the worktop industry, especially for the end-user. If you've been looking already for worktops I would imagine you would have heard the name Silestone banded around and for good reason. From a fabricator's point of view (which is what we are, we don't just write amazing blogs haha) they offer us the best service from all of our suppliers there is almost never an issue with the material quality (something i wish was the same across the board) and most importantly if there is an issue they have amazing technical support who visit site and determine the best course of action whether that be replace the top or repair on site. Also all Silestone products you get a 25-year warranty. Again huge range of colours.

Silestone is not suitable for outdoor use and you can NOT place a pan straight from your hob onto it or you may end up with a very expensive repair bill. We tell every customer who buys quartz from us not to place pans direct from your hob onto the top as it could damage it we know not everyone listens and to date in the last 7 year we have only been called out to 1 repair for this so you may get away with it 9 times out of 10 but for the sake of a pan stand spend the £5 and protect your tops.

If you are looking for either Silestone or Dekton in the North East of England, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, Teeside or any of the surrounding regions then feel free to give us here at R.O Surfaces a call and make an appointment on 0191 4477440. we look forward to working with you
